🕸️ Spider-Man Filming Locations
From the neon-lit chaos of Times Square to the rain-slicked streets of Glasgow pretending to be New York, here’s exactly where every major live-action Spider-Man film brought the web-slinging action to life across the globe.
🕷️ Tobey Maguire’s Spider Man (Sam Raimi Trilogy)
Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker is just your average nerdy high schooler from Forest Hills, Queens – until a radioactive spider sinks its fangs into him at a Columbia University lab.
Suddenly, he’s got web-shooters, Spidey-sense, and a massive crush on Mary Jane Watson. But with great power comes great responsibility, and when the Green Goblin threatens NYC, Peter learns that being a hero means making sacrifices.
By the time we hit the third film, his ego is at an all-time high (black suit, anyone?), and he’s battling Sandman, Venom, and Harry Osborn‘s revenge while trying not to embarrass himself in a jazz club.
Cast: Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, James Franco, Thomas Haden Church, Topher Grace.

The Raimi trilogy kicked things off in actual New York City neighborhoods like Forest Hills, Queens, and Bryant Park in Manhattan. The Roosevelt Island Tramway made a cameo as Peter‘s dramatic escape route.
But Columbia University’s lab? That’s actually the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County doing its best Ivy League impression. For the cafeteria tray catch crew members used sticky glue to secure Tobey‘s hand to the tray, and it took him exactly 156 tries to nail it.
New York‘s subway is mostly underground, Spider-Man 2, they hauled over to Chicago‘s elevated “L” train for the spectacular stunts in the legendary train fight. They invented a camera rig called the “Spydercam” to capture Spidey’s swooping swings.
The massive armored car chase with Sandman in Spider-Man 3 was shot in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, because New York wouldn’t let them destroy real streets for weeks. Also, that jazz club dance scene was entirely Tobey‘s idea.

Real-life amputee and world-champion kickboxer Baxter Humby played Sandman – his missing hand meant punches visually passed through the sandy chest without digital removal. Pure practical genius.
What was filmed here:
- Forest Hills, Queens (Spider-Man): Peter‘s childhood home.
- Roosevelt Island Tramway (Spider-Man): Peter‘s dramatic escape.
- Natural History Museum of LA (Spider-Man): “Columbia University” lab.
- Joe’s Pizza, Greenwich Village, NY (Spider-Man 2): Peter‘s delivery job.
- Chicago Loop “L” Train (Spider-Man 2): The epic train battle with Doc Ock.
- Downtown Cleveland (Spider-Man 3): Armored car chase with Sandman.
- 1345 Avenue of the Americas (Spider-Man 3): Gwen Stacy skyscraper rescue.
- Sony Pictures Studios, Culver City (all films): Interior scenes & soundstages.

🕷️ Andrew Garfield’s Spiderman (Marc Webb Duology)
Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker is a skateboarding outsider searching for answers about his parents’ disappearance. He uncovers his dad’s secret lab work, gets bitten by a spider (obviously), and faces off against the Lizard – his dad’s former partner turned giant reptile.
Gwen Stacy is smart, snarky, and way out of his league. By the second film, Peter is juggling being The Amazing Spider-Man, dating Gwen, and dealing with Electro – a shy engineer turned living lightning bolt – and the Green Goblin.
The action is bigger, the stakes are higher, and Gwen‘s fate is tragically sealed (we’re still not over it).
Cast: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan.

The first Amazing Spider-Man moved primary photography to Los Angeles and its surroundings, using real locations like William Howard Taft Charter High School in Woodland Hills for Midtown Science High.
Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles was used to film dramatic scenes. They also shot in NYC (Manhattan and Williamsburg) for authenticity, but the bulk was in California.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was the first Spider-Man movie shot entirely on location in New York State, filming in Times Square, Chinatown, Dumbo, and even Rochester, where the massive police chase with Rhino was shot.
They built a multi-block replica of Times Square on a lot just to blow it up with Electro‘s lightning – because why build something if you can’t destroy it?
Andrew Garfield trained with professional parkour athletes on the real streets of L.A. and NYC to give his Spider-Man a more acrobatic, spider-like movement – lots of crawling and low-to-the-ground skittering. He also actually skateboarded to set every day – because method acting.

What was filmed here:
- William Howard Taft Charter High School, CA (The Amazing Spider-Man): Midtown Science High.
- Immanuel Presbyterian Church, LA (The Amazing Spider-Man): Uncle Ben scenes.

- Jane’s Carousel, Dumbo, NYC (The Amazing Spider-Man 2): Glass-enclosed carousel.
- Rochester, New York (The Amazing Spider-Man 2): The Rhino police chase (NYC).
- Sony Pictures Studios (Both films): Sewer sets and interior scenes.

🕷️ Tom Holland’s Spiderman (MCU Era)
Tom Holland’s Peter Parker starts as a bright-eyed kid from Queens who just wants to impress Tony Stark and maybe pass his math test. After getting drafted into the Avengers‘ Civil War, he faces the Vulture – a salvage worker turned weapons dealer – while trying to survive high school.
Then comes a European field trip that turns into a nightmare when Mysterio shows up with elemental monsters and a whole lot of lies. And finally, the multiverse breaks open, past villains return, and Peter makes the ultimate sacrifice: having everyone forget he ever existed.
In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, he’s completely alone – no one remembers him, not even MJ or Ned. But a scientific conspiracy emerges, and Jean Grey‘s psychic powers unleash a rampaging Savage Hulk.
Peter must team up with Jon Bernthal’s Punisher to stop the beast – all while dealing with MJ, who has a new boyfriend and zero memory of their past romance.
Cast: Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Michael Keaton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jon Favreau, Marisa Tomei, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo.

Tom‘s journey went truly global. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) was primarily filmed at Trilith Studios, Georgia, and locations like Midtown High School (formerly Henry W. Grady High School) to double for Queens, with brief second-unit work in NYC and Washington D.C.
Tom Holland enrolled under a fake name at The Bronx High School of Science for three days to prepare for his role. No one recognized him – and when he told classmates he was Spider-Man, nobody believed him.
Spiderman: Far From Home (2019) spanned international locations including Venice, Prague, Liberec (Czech Republic), and London, with additional studio work at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK.

The crew drained a historic plaza in Venice for the Hydro-Man battle, and filmed across iconic Venetian landmarks including the Rialto Bridge, where the water monster attacks, Piazza San Marco, the Venetian Arsenal, and Campo Santa Maria Formosa where the bell tower collapses.
Filming locations included the luxury Carlo IV Hotel in Prague where the students stayed, the Vinohrady Theatre served as the opera house, and the historic Charles Bridge.
The explosive carnival battle against the Molten Man was shot in Liberec in the Czech Republic, about 60 miles away. Náměstí Dr. E. Beneše (Dr. Edvard Beneš Square) was fitted with a Ferris wheel, game stalls, and food stands to create a massive European festival.

The Neo-Renaissance Liberec Town Hall was the stunning backdrop, with a section built for Tom Holland to hang off of. The Neptune Fountain got a temporary statue that was blown away during the action.
Spiderman: No Way Home (2021) shot primarily at Trilith Studios, Georgia, NYC (Queens and Greenwich Village) and Los Angeles. Tobey and Andrew walked around Atlanta wrapped in heavy cloaks to hide their costumes from paparazzi and fans.
Spiderman: Brand New Day (2026) took Spidey to Wembley/London and Glasgow, Scotland, which doubled for downtown NYC. Bothwell Street and St. Vincent Street were transformed with American flags and police cruisers to double for NYC.
Tom delighted fans at Bothwell Street by greeting them in full costume and posing for photos.
